"Channels enable you to view detailed reporting about the performance of specific pages and ad units. By assigning a channel to a combination of pages or ad units, you could track the performance of a leaderboard versus a banner, or compare your motorcycle pages to your automobile pages. Channels can also be used to track the performance of each of your separate domains (websites), so you can see where your clicks are coming from." - Google
There are two types of channels from which to choose: URL channels, and custom channels.
URL Channels
URL Channels can be used to track the performance of the URLs (website/webpage addresses) that you provide.
With URL Channels you can:
- Track the performance of two different sites and find out which site is earning you more money .
- Track the performance of an entire website. By entering the top-level domain name you can track all pages on that domain.
An URL channel of http://www.ahsin.net will track the performance of all the pages on the site www.ashin.net - Track the performance of all the pages under a certain directory by entering a partial URL.
e.g. : an URL channel of http://www.ahsin.net/golf will track the performance of all pages in the Golf directory. - Track the performance of a particular webpage by entering the full URL of that page.
e.g.: http://www.ahsin.net/golf/how-to-swing.html
Custom channels allow you to track the performance of specific ad units based on your specified criteria. You can use Custom Channels to :
- Track the performance of different Ad formats and find out which works better. For example you may find that vertical banners at the side work better than the large rectangles at the top.
- Track the performance of ads with different color combinations. (You may realize that ads with black background are getting more clicks than ads with red background)
- Track the performance of ads at different positions/locations of your site. This may help you find the best position for adsense ads on your site.
